Review your squad before the next FPL deadline
Find out whether there is a transfer worth making this week, and whether it is worth a hit.
FPL 3 of 36 sections
Your squad review answers one question before the deadline: is there a transfer worth making this week? For the example squad, rated on 26 October 2026 before gameweek 9, the answer was yes. Sell Greaves, who had lost minutes, with a free transfer, but not for a points hit. This chapter shows how to reach a call like that for your own squad.
You need a rated team first. Get your team ID and a rating from Rate my FPL team.
How good is the squad?
The squad score runs from 0 to 100 over the next five gameweeks. 0 is what a typical randomly picked squad on your budget would score; 100 is the best squad you could afford at today's prices. The example squad scored 82 for gameweeks 9 to 13: strong, with a few points to find.
The score is not your league rank. It counts your best eleven each week with your top projected starter as captain, and it ignores free transfers, hits, chips and selling prices. Those are your call.
Check the line under the team name, too. On 26 October it read: "This GW8 squad, as FPL published it. Transfers for GW9 appear here when GW9 locks, Sat 31 Oct 11:00 UK time." A transfer you made this week is not in the rating yet.
Where is the squad weakest?
Recommended transfers shows up to four moves, each with the player to sell and the expected gain in points per gameweek. Without Pro, the player to buy shows as Pro pick. The example squad's cards:
| Sell | Position | Gain |
|---|---|---|
| Konsa | DEF | +0.6 pts/GW |
| van Hecke | DEF | +1.0 pts/GW |
| Greaves | DEF | +0.8 pts/GW |
| Tzolis | MID | +0.6 pts/GW |
Three of the four sell a defender, so defence is where the points are. The moves are chosen in order, each assuming you made the ones before it, so read them as a set rather than ranking them by gain.
Is it the player or bad luck?
Pick one player and find out why the model wants them gone. In the example, take Greaves, the Ipswich defender.
The squad table's Your call column showed No signal, with 4 points under Pts against 16.7 under xPts, the points Greaves's chances were worth. On that alone, Greaves looked unlucky, a reason to hold.
The Mins column told the real story. Greaves had 481 minutes across eight gameweeks; van Hecke, another defender in the squad, had 786. Chance volume listed Greaves with 5 appearances. Lost minutes, not poor returns, is why the model would sell, and lost minutes rarely fix themselves.
Two more checks:
- Minutes lists Who is at risk of not starting. A player there is a stronger sell.
- A player's page, from the transfer card, has a Matches tab that shows whether they started recent games or came off the bench.
Who replaces them?
With Pro, each card names the replacement. Without it, open the Fixture Run Finder, choose Defensive and Defenders, and look for regular starters. For six gameweeks of a club's fixtures, use fixture difficulty.
Put your best two or three into player comparison beside the player you would sell. Compare players explains each row. The replacement must play the same position, fit your bank, and keep you to three players per club.
Is it worth a hit?
The gain is per gameweek, averaged over the next five. Greaves's +0.8 is about 4 points across gameweeks 9 to 13. A hit costs 4, so the move pays only as a free transfer.
That gives three calls:
- Transfer now when the player is losing minutes and you have a free transfer. That was the example's call.
- Hold when the gain is small, or only just covers a hit.
- Plan for later when the problem starts in a few gameweeks. Note the gameweek and check again before that deadline.
Before you confirm in FPL, check your selling price and bank there. The rating uses current prices, not what you would get for your player.
