The xG table ranks every Premier League club on the chances it created and conceded, valued as expected goals, rather than on the goals that went in. The real table counts results; this one counts the quality of the chances behind them, so the two drift apart when a club keeps winning tight matches it did not control, or keeps losing ones it did.
Expected points re-score each match from its chances and add the results up over the season, so a club sits above its expected points when its finishing, goalkeeping or luck in close games has run hot, and below them when the same things have run cold. The gap tends to close as the season goes on, which is why a large one is worth noticing.
The table updates after every match, once the full event data for it has been processed, which takes 4 to 12 hours after full time. The line above the table names the gameweek and the date of the last update.
Liverpool, with 75.5 expected points against 84 real points, so they have banked more than their chances deserve. Expected points are the points a side's chances would earn on an average day.
An xG table ranks every Premier League club on the quality of the chances it created and conceded, scored as expected goals, rather than on the goals that went in. It sits beside the real table so you can see which clubs are earning their position and which are riding luck.
Expected points re-score each match from its chances: a side that created far better chances than its opponent is credited with most of the points on offer, whatever the final score. Added up over the season they give the points a club would have on an average day, not the points it banked.
Its chances have been worth more than its results, usually because finishing or goalkeeping has run cold or a few close matches went the wrong way. Those gaps tend to narrow over a season, so a club well above its real position is often due a run of better results.
